On Friday and Saturday, starting at 8:30 PM, we’ll be offering up 5 hours of the finest rock ‘n’ roll each night with a selection of historical concerts filmed throughout ARF’s 19 years of life—never broadcast until now. We’ll feature some of the legendary performances that have gone down on our stages which stand among the most and best remembered by festival fans, such as Turbonegro’s and The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies’ sets from the 2004 edition, and The Soundtrack of Our Lives’ 2009 show. ARF Sofa Edition will also count on exclusive concerts filmed specially for the occasion. In his press conference delivery, festival director and Last Tour CEO Alfonso Santiago emphasized the value of artists of such standing as Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley playing songs exclusively for ARF fans, also mentioning the live shows of The Steepwater Band and Dewolff, which will make viewers feel like they’re with the bands in their practice studio, a premier experience just for ARF. Top performances, anecdotes, and stories recounted by the festival’s true protagonists—artists, festivalgoers, journalists, and crew—can be enjoyed in the special section “The best of ARF 2001-2019” which will open the festival each evening. Completing the program is Rockanrollers, the film about ARF directed by Juanma Bajo Ulloa and the participation of Suzi Quatro, Fu Manchu, and L7, among others.
Attending this morning’s press conference, held via video-conference in Vitoria-Gasteiz, were the Charter Deputy of Culture and Sport of the Deputation of Alava-Araba, Ana del Val Sancho, Delegate-Councilwoman of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council’s Department of Education and Culture Estíbaliz Canto Llorente, and festival director Alfonso Santiago. Each of them stressed the relevance of Azkena Rock Festival as a dynamizer of culture in the city and its importance as one of the province’s touristic and economic drivers.
